Defensive Driving Academy history dates back to 2012 when, World Health Organisation launched, On 11 May 2011, the first ever Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011–2020 was launched with great enthusiasm and optimism across the world. Mandated by the United Nations General Assembly, the Decade is a historic opportunity for countries to stop and reverse the trend which without action would lead to the loss of around 1.9 million lives on the roads each year by 2020. Governments, international agencies, civil society organizations and private companies in more than 100 countries celebrated the launch of the Decade through hundreds of events, both national and local. From Sri Lanka to Albania and from Ethiopia, Zambia to Peru, presidents and prime ministers; ministers of transport, health and others; heads of international and non-governmental organizations; chief executive officers of companies; road traffic victims and their families; and other concerned citizens expressed their commitment to the goal of the Decade: saving 5 million lives.

OVERVIEW
Defensive Driving Academy is a BQA accredited institution offering comprehensive road safety training in Botswana. The company was setup with the sole mandate of promoting, training and development of transport based education which will help curb the gap in the Botswana’s economy which will be globally competitive by providing facilities and material to educate the nation.
Provision of a high quality transport system is a necessary precondition for the full participation of remote communities in the benefits of national development.
DDA is led by a team of professionals that are dedicated to improving road safety skills and competency levels of all road users in Botswana and across our boarders. This will be achieved through;DDA becoming a leading local and regional player in professional driver training and programming, by being responsive to the road and traffic laws and regulation changes, and most importantly, by being able to translate the laws and regulations to training modules for the various targeted stakeholders.
OUR PARTNERS
Our Community Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative Project Mpontshe Tsela was established to ensure that our messages are all inclusive. All stakeholders regardless of socioeconomic level benefit from our expertise. This is acompany limited by guarantee that specifically works with communities on road safety awareness programming projects.
OUR METHOD
The Defensive Driving Academy training methods are tailored the candidate’s capacity to grasp the material as well as their level of experience. The assessed capacity in grasping the course contents is determined by evaluating candidates using comprehensive evaluation methods before the training. Continuous assessment is used to ensure that only the candidates that meet the prescribed level of understanding are certified competent. Regular reviews at agreed intervals ensure that our graduates are kept up-to date with the latest road safety best practices. This also ensure that the skills and competencies attained from the training courses are reinforced.

OBJECTIVES
Our strategic objectives to save lives on the road by making the roads safer are as follows;
• To pass on the skills and knowledge to drivers through the use of simple and illustrative methods thus allowing drivers to defend, protect and care for themselves and other road users.
• To improve and foster the basic driving skills of drivers so they take into consideration that all road users are to share the road effectively, this will ultimately become a way of life.
• To change the perceptions and attitudes of drivers towards driving.
• To become outstanding players and contributors in the development of Road Safety through participation in Road Shows, presentations, interviews and the media to promote safety in all the parts of Botswana countrywide.
• To keep our operation up to date with all new developments in road safety best practices, by regularly reviewing material to suit the needs of the countries we operate in.
• To keep the public updated all the time on issues of road safety.
